Notice Description

  Energy Storage RFP

Notice of Request for Proposal

Through this RFP, the IESO is seeking to procure up to a total of 35 MW of regulation service and/or reactive support and voltage control from grid energy storage facility operators.

The IESO has the responsibility for maintaining power system reliability. It does this in part through contracting for sufficient regulation and reactive support and voltage control to meet all applicable reliability standards. Regulation service acts to match total system generation to total system load (plus transmission losses) minute-by-minute as required on the electricity grid, and acts to help correct variations in power system frequency. Reactive support and voltage control service enables the power system to be maintained at appropriate voltage levels.
More details are provided in the RFP document which is available on MERX. There are additional deadlines listed within the “Timetable for RFP” table, Section 3.8 of the RFP document.

Please note that RFP responses are due before 3:00 p.m. (Toronto time) April 28,2014.
