Notice Description

16-RFC-23 Architecture Services New Research, Innovation and Engineering Centre

Laurentian University has submitted a funding proposal to the federal government’s Post-Secondary Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) for the design and construction of a new Research, Innovation and Engineering Centre. Approval of project, or funding for the project has not yet been received. This project is conditional on receiving the appropriate governmental program and financial approvals.

A response to the proposal is anticipated by the end of June 2016. If the requested funding is approved, construction is expected to commence in late summer 2016. If less than the requested amount is approved, the project may be staged and the scope of the required architectural services may be adjusted accordingly. Any such changes made prior to the Closing Date will be communicated via an addendum to this RFP. If the funding request is denied, Laurentian will be required to cancel this RFP. Based on the project time lines primarily established by the funders, the early release of this RFP is intended to accelerate our level of preparedness.

The project will be developed as a 47,000 square foot expansion of the 46-year old Fraser Building as identified in the preliminary site layout provided in the appendices. This project is being managed by the university’s Capital Projects Department.

Comprehensive architectural services are required for the project including: schematic design, design development and detailed design including the preparation of construction documents in Autodesk REVIT that will be tendered and administered using the Construction Management project delivery methodology with a total of four (4) sequential tender packages, construction contract administration and project close-out including the preparation of electronic measured as-built floor plans, fire floor plans and record drawings. In addition, the consultant will provide other services such as leading and facilitating charrettes, chairing meetings and creating architectural renderings of the final design. An overview of the required services is provided in Appendix A, A.1.3: Scope of Work: Architectural Consulting Services.
